BetMGM marketed a new-customer welcome offer under the code BROAD1500 on Oct. 24, pairing the promotion with the Week 8 college-football slate. The reward structure differed sharply by location: new users in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia could receive $150 in bonus bets after a winning first wager of $10, while customers in other eligible states could receive up to $1,500 in bonus bets if their first bet lost.
Crossing Broad said it created an account and tested the offer and its terms on Oct. 24. To qualify, customers had to open a new account, enter the code, deposit at least $10 and make the required initial wager. New York was excluded from the promotion.
Bonus bets were credited after the qualifying wager settled. Their stake was not returned when a bonus bet won. Customers also had to be at least 21 and physically located in an eligible state; the offer was unavailable where online sports betting had not been legalized.
Michigan’s Lawful Sports Betting Act, enacted in 2019, defines an authorized internet sports-betting participant as a person aged 21 or older with a valid account. The law also includes free play, loyalty points and other redeemable betting credits within its definition of cash or cash equivalents risked through an internet sports-betting wager.
The promotion was presented around Michigan State’s game at UCLA. UCLA was listed as a 16.5-point home favorite, with a 43.5-point total for the matchup.
As reported Oct. 18, BetMGM had offered Michigan newcomers a different $150 promotion for NFL Week 6.
A separate Fox News account of BetMGM’s October welcome offer described a code, FOXNEWS, that provided up to $1,500 back in bonus bets after a first-bet loss. That offer required a wager of between $10 and $1,500, and its bonus bets expired after seven days, terms distinct from the BROAD1500 promotion.
