The Powerball drawing that took place on Saturday August 14, produced no jackpot winner, which means the $259 million amount will be rolled over to the next drawing taking place on Tuesday August 17. According to the Michigan Lottery and the official Powerball site, the new jackpot will be $274 million, with the cash option of $197.7 million.

The Saturday draw produced the following numbers:

  • White Powerball numbers: 6, 21, 49, 65, 67
  • Red Powerball number: 18
  • Power Play number: 2

Although there was no jackpot winner on Saturday, one lucky player from Maryland did manage to guess all five white numbers correctly, resulting in a $1,000,000 win. Unfortunately for the winner, they opted not to take the Power Play option, which would have doubled their winnings.

As for other lottery players in Michigan, there were over 24,000 winning tickets sold in the state. However, the largest prize won was just $200 and that amount was won by nine Michiganders.

Powerball in Michigan

Powerball is one of the largest lotteries in the United States alongside Mega Millions. With drawings taking place twice a week, on Saturdays and Tuesdays, it attracts a lot of interest from people across the US, frequently featuring massive jackpots worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Of course, Powerball is not exclusive to Michigan. The lottery is available in 44 states as well as Washington D.C., Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

The Michigan Lottery offers everyone in the state a chance to purchase their tickets online, which does not just save time but makes the whole process much more convenient. Players can easily pick the numbers they want to add to the ticket and the number of tickets and combinations. Each combination costs $2 or $3 with the Power Play option.

The Power Play option applies a random multiplier between 2x and 5x to all the winnings except the jackpot. Also, in the event of a $1,000,000 win (for five white balls), the win is always just doubled regardless of the actual multiplier.

Other available Powerball wins players can look forward to include:

  • $50,000 for four white balls and the Powerball (1 in 913,130 odds)
  • $100 for four white balls or three white balls and the Powerball
  • $7 for three white balls or two white balls and the Powerball
  • $4 for one white ball and the Powerball or the Powerball alone

As for the main jackpot, the odds of winning are longer than 1 in 292 million.

MI Lottery Big Winners

Michiganders have had a fair share of luck when it comes to big lottery wins in the past. In January of 2021, four lucky winners from MI claimed a massive $1.05 billion Mega Millions jackpot.

When it comes to Powerball, the biggest win for a ticket sold in Michigan happened in August of 2012, when a single winner claimed a jackpot to the tune of $337 million.

The next Powerball draw will take place on Tuesday August 17, and if there happens to be a winner, they will have an option to take the full amount of $274 million paid in annuities or a lump sum payment of $197.7 million.

Of course, these are amounts before taxes. Lottery winnings in the US are taxable, so winners will have to pay state and federal taxes, but there will still be more than enough cash to go around once that part is settled.

If you would like to get involved with Powerball, keep in mind that the Michigan Lottery is welcoming all new players with a generous bonus of 50 keno games completely free and a 50% match up to $100 on your first deposit, so you can get your hands of some extra cash with very little trouble.
