Affiliate pages on Oct. 29 marketed a BetMGM welcome offer around the Carolina Panthers-Green Bay Packers game that gave new Michigan customers $150 in bonus bets for a winning $10 first wager. The same win-required path was advertised for new users physically located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
SportsBettingDime, Denver Stiffs and Crossing Broad described the four-state offer with different affiliate codes, including DENVER150 and BROAD150. Customers had to open a new account, enter the applicable code, deposit at least $10 and place a qualifying real-money bet; Crossing Broad also specified that users had to be at least 21. Eligibility depended on where the customer was when placing the bet, rather than on a permanent address.
The qualifying wager could be placed on any Panthers-Packers market, including the moneyline, point spread or total. The game was scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET in Green Bay, with the Panthers entering at 3-3 and the Packers at 4-3. At the time Crossing Broad published its offer, BetMGM listed Green Bay as a four-point favorite and set the total at 47.
Affiliate pages advertised different welcome structures outside the four states. Illinois, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia were listed for up to $1,000 back in bonus bets over a customer’s first 10 days, while Arizona, Colorado, Washington, D.C., Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts and Maryland were offered up to $1,500 in bonus bets when a first wager lost.
The published offers were not entirely uniform across affiliates. Covers advertised a COVERSBONUS code for a $150 offer in Colorado as well as Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Its COVERS code instead listed a $1,500 first-bet offer, plus $50 in bonus bets, across a different group that included Illinois, North Carolina and Wyoming. A losing wager above $50 would be returned as five bonus bets worth 20% of the stake each, while a $10 winning wager under its $150 route produced three $50 bonus bets.
Bonus bets were non-withdrawable, had no independent cash value and typically expired within seven days if unused. BetMGM launched its Michigan sports betting and iGaming app in January 2021, after the state legalized online sports betting.
As we reported Oct. 25, BetMGM had used the same four-state, $150 win-required structure in a welcome offer tied to the Packers-Lions game.
