BetMGM marketed a state-specific welcome offer alongside Sunday night’s Kansas City Chiefs-Seattle Seahawks game, offering a smaller win-based reward in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia while advertising first-bet loss protection elsewhere.
Sports Betting Dime published the promotion on Oct. 25 using two codes. New customers in the four named states could enter SBD150, deposit at least $10 and place a first wager of at least $10. A winning qualifying bet would return $150 in bonus bets.
Customers in other eligible legal states could instead use SBD1500. That version offered up to $1,500 in bonus bets if the first wager lost. CBS Sports independently described the same split between the four-state, $150 win-based offer and the larger loss-protection offer, although it promoted the offer with its own CBSSPORTS code.
The promotion was limited to first-time BetMGM customers aged 21 or older who were physically in an eligible state when placing the wager. Eligibility depended on a bettor’s location at the time of the bet rather than a permanent home address. Sports Betting Dime said it tested the sign-up process and codes on Oct. 25.
The credits were bonus bets, rather than withdrawable cash. They generally expired after seven days, and winnings from a bonus bet did not include the promotional stake.
Although the marketing was tied to Chiefs-Seahawks, the offer could also be used on other Week 7 NFL games. The Chiefs were scheduled to visit the Seahawks at 8:20 p.m. Eastern Time, with BetMGM listing Seattle as a three-point home favorite and the game total at 42.5 points. Kansas City was 5-0 entering the matchup, while Seattle was 3-3.
