The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has authorized the Gun Lake Band of Pottawatomi Indians of Michigan and their platform provider, Parx Interactive, to launch online sports betting.

The tribe’s Gun Lake Casino was approved for online casino games back in April. The new online sports betting app is the most recent one to launch in the state of Michigan, with a series of other tribal and commercial powered apps already licensed for operation.

“With Gun Lake Casino now fully authorized, 14 current Michigan operators and their platform providers may offer both internet casino gaming and online sports betting to patrons,” said MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams. “The associated revenue payments will support responsible gaming, the First Responder Presumed Coverage Fund, K-12 education and economic development.”

Online Casino Up Since April

As the Gun Lake Band of Pottawatomi launches its sports betting product, their online casino has already been alive and operational for several months.

Back in April, the tribe launched a casino product in partnership with Parx and Playtech, who provided its mobile casino app for the launch.

The Play Gun Lake app features the latest technologies in the iGaming industry, including Playtech’s revolutionary Information Management System and Player Account Management.

Playtech’s partnership with Parx Interactive is their first major move into the US market, as the industry giant plans to enter numerous states and offer its product nationwide over time.

According to the deal between Playtech and Parx parent company Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment, Michigan is just one of the stops, as their proprietary technology is set to be used across Parx branded products in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana and other states.

Tribal Casino Partnerships

Michigan’s online gambling scene is quite lively and has been growing at an expedited pace ever since the launch of sports betting in the state back in 2019.

Today, a total of 14 online gambling operators are licensed for operation in the Wolverine State, with 11 of those being associated with the local tribes and three offering online gambling through pure commercial partnerships of live casinos and betting companies.

Besides the agreement between Parx and the Gun Lake Band of Pottawatomi, the other nine partnerships are:

  • Bay Mills Indian Community—DraftKings, at the Bay Mills Resort & Casino;
  • Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi—NYX Digital, at FireKeepers Casino;
  • Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians—Pala Interactive, at the Four Winds Casinos;
  • Hannahville Indian Community—TwinSpires, at Island Resort & Casino;
  • Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians—WynnBET, at the Kewadin Casinos;
  • Little River Band of Ottawa Indians—BetRivers, at Little River Casino Resort;
  • Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians—PointsBet, at Northern Waters Resort;
  • Keweenaw Bay Indian Community—Golden Nugget, at Ojibwa Casino;
  • Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians—William Hill, at Turtle Creek Casino; and
  • Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians—PokersStars (for online casino and poker) and FoxBet (sports betting), at the Odawa Casinos.

While not partnered with a tribe, BetMGM, FanDuel and Barstool are very active in the state.
