For the 12th time in a row, with a one-year gap due to the pandemic, the Detroit Red Wings Foundation is throwing a charity Texas Hold’em poker tournament at the MotorCity Casino Hotel, featuring a number of Red Wings legends in the field.
The tournament is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, and will host a maximum of 108 entries. Entry tickets are on sale now and the price of admission is a $450 donation to the Foundation.
As part of the admission package, the Detroit Red Wings Foundation is giving away an entry into the tournament, along with VIP dinner and one night’s stay at the MotorCity Casino Hotel for the participant and one guest, and a silent auction.
“After a one-season hiatus, the Detroit Red Wings Foundation is thrilled to once again partner with MotorCity Casino Hotel to host the Red Wings Charity Poker Tournament,” Red Wings and Tigers director of community impact Kevin Brown said.
“Whether you’re enjoying the first-class strolling dinner, bidding on spectacular auction items or trying to knock out a Red Wings alumnus to receive their jersey bounty, MotorCity Casino Hotel will be the place to be on February 16, 2022.”
The tournament itself will run somewhat differently than a regular Texas Hold’em tournament, being a charity event, which means the price of admission will not go toward the prize pool.
Instead, the winner will receive a fixed $5,000 grand prize, while the runner-up will take home $2,500 in cash. Other players who finish in the top ten will receive tickets to Red Wings home games and autographed hockey sticks used in games by their favorite Red Wings.
Even more prizes will be up for grabs, as anyone who successfully eliminates one of the nine Red Wings who will participate in the tournament — including Chris Osgood and Darren McCarty — will win a signed Red Wings shirt, right off the player’s back.
Things could hardly get any more exciting for Red Wings fans who enjoy poker, as this is a once-a-year opportunity to get to meet some of the legends of the game and play poker with them with some amazing prizes on the line as well.
